Sims 4

Note: This game also has a console option, but I only play it on the PC, and it is all I can offer personal experience with at this time.

I’ve been playing the Sims since it came out. And I’ve been a fan of EA games since the early 80s. My favorite game of theirs is still Stuart Smith’s Adventure Construction Set for the Commodore 64. Anyone else remember that one? You can hear the theme song here and here.

There are some great Simmers who show tips and tricks in YouTube videos. Here is who I am currently following and/or recommend. If you’d like to be added to this list, please send me your info via my contact page so I can check it out.

To help distract myself from being widowed, I started making content I felt was worth sharing in the Sims 4 Gallery. Please note that I never use custom content *to build* (I definitely play with mods though!) . . . and currently do not make my own (I’ve tried, but so far, I can’t make sense out of the tutorials… *sad*). My gallery ID: jbingum_the_just

I made a video for my first house, and I will probably get around to doing it for others. Here’s the first! They will each have sound — YouTube provided music to add to the atmosphere. No speech, though, so if you don’t have sound, cannot hear, etc, you’re not missing anything.

SIMS I’VE MADE:

Without looking it up, can anyone tell me why all the orphans (except Annie) have the last name Gray? The Sims won’t let you save characters without a last name, so I had to give them something. Gray was chosen for a specific reason.

SIMS I’M WORKING ON:

  • He-Man / Prince Adam & She-Ra / Force Captain Adora
  • April Ewing (from Dallas)
  • Bobby Ewing (from Dallas)
  • JR Ewing (from Dallas)
  • Pennywise the Dancing Clown (from Stephen King’s It)
  • Various cast from Grey’s Anatomy
  • Ayla & Durc (from The Clan of the Cave Bear – will include a cave “house”) – Update, this family and household are now in the Gallery. I will add photos to this page ASAP.

Since joining some Sims groups on social media, I have learned that I have missed out on ALL sorts of interesting things available in the game. I wanted to share as many of them with you that I can here. Note that I haven’t tried many of these — yet! (When I do, I’ll put an asterisk (*) at the end of the line. If you’ve discovered any that I haven’t listed here, I’d love to hear from you — and I’ll include them in this list!

  • In detail mode, a slider lets you change the size/shape of your Sim’s pupil.
  • In detail mode, a slider(s) lets you change your Sims posture (upper/middle back).
  • Pet vacuum for fur balls and other pet messes.
  • Drones (possibly from Get Famous) that you can record your neighborhood with..!
  • City Living has an apartment with a chalk outline on the floor — but you have to move something to find it.
  • Sometimes cats ride on the vacuums.
  • First person mode. Shift + Tab on PC; Click “second joystick” on X-Box. (I only play on PC, so am only going by what someone shared about X-Box. If the terminology is wrong, please tell me what it should be.) If 1st-person action games make you motion sick, this will too! It got me in about 3 minutes, maybe less. I plan to try it again, but only after taking Bonine! (Bonine is similar to Dramamine.)
  • Got a cow plant? Place a stereo CLOSE by and it will dance to the music!
  • Hidden Worlds
  • Max out the culinary aspiration (perfect chef?) and your food will never go bad.
  • There’s apparently a “grilled cheese” aspiration.
  • Mac and Cheese cooked in a cauldron will last longer before spoiling.
  • Brindleton Bay has a pet cemetery.
  • If you put up bird feeders and fill them, you can bird watch . . . but the birds might attack you too! And if you have cats, the cats might kill the birds.
  • There’s a trash can that pays you to use it!
  • Romantic Garden Stuff has a wishing well where you can wish for a child. But… you might get a “Bad Seed”.
  • Need a bunch of Sims to cooperate for an event? Like a wedding? Form a group and have them all join it first.
  • If you have the acting studio, you can put food in your inventory . . and it will put new food out in place of it . . . and! So, a good tip for your Sims who would set the house on fire boiling water! Just remember it will still go bad like other food does.
  • You can change pet breed names. (Wish I had known that before I uploaded my Cheshire Cat to the Gallery!)
  • If you kick gnomes, you get electrocuted.
